Engineer Your Environment To Push Through Plateaus
The latest research tells us that at least as much as 40% of what we do and think is linked to
our environment and our immediate surroundings. Most of us, myself included, are completely unaware of how this can impact us. According to Adam Alter's Drunk Tank Pink research shows that simply having your kitchen painted red or orange can result in one eating more than they normally would particularly in the absence of hunger. Think about that next time you have a New Years weight loss resolution.
Most of what we do on a daily basis is automated, or as Daniel Kahneman would say, is a result of our 'system 1' thought process. Only by becoming more aware and mindful of our own emotions, actions and our environments, can we break through those pesky plateaus that seem to get in our way of achieving many of the goals we set for ourselves.
