Hollywood has lost its nerve

Growing up we all tend to gravitate towards a certain genre of film for whatever reasons.
There was a time when pushing the creative envelope entailed a certain originality, a vision of doing something few others have done. In this days Hollywood however it seems that it's loss averse position on box office receipts has it working in the opposite direction of what one traditionally regards as artistic.

With very few exceptions in today's Hollywood there is about as much creativity as the process involved that goes into creating a brown paper bag. There was a time when original story ideas were what separated the good from the not so good films. That has given way to the creative machine linked to cpu's, cgi and stunts which have their rightful place in film making but in this current remake, superhero, sequel only environment it seems that each and every one of these movies released are all the same and dependent on the same process.

It was only 20 years ago the independent film segment was taking Hollywood by storm. Today the major studios seem to care more about pleasing shareholders on a quarterly basis than to honor the creative element that makes fine art what it is. Something that inspires thought, new perspective, even the horror films were more creative and provocative back in the days.
