Context....The Power To Transform
Thinking is a superpower we can all develop but so few of us do. How we think, what we think about, and what we think about our own thoughts are all things we can work to do more efficiently to move us in a direction of our choosing in life. There is a power in being able to manage how we think because how we think determines how we feel and what we feel determines what we do. So when we decide on how we think, we decide what our behavior will be.
Context changes everything. Context is about our perception of something, not the actual 'something'. Failing at something is not the same thing as being a failure. Perception is reality and this is completely malleable. We can choose to see things the way we want, we just have to first understand that we can.
How we apply context to experiences in our lives greatly depends on our narrative styles. We all have scripts we live by influenced by our parents, culture, religions, political affiliations, gender, age, etc. They are nothing more than learned concepts. Once you accept that, you can work to creating your own narratives and thus be flexible wth context.
There was a time in the past where if I failed at something, I considered myself a failure. My mindset now is that if I fail at something, I just have to practice or learn more to get better at that thing. Failing has become a tool for learning. I changed context.
Approaching everything in life as a learning experience is a wonderful and productive way to manage context. There is never a point where any of us can say we learned everything there is to learn, about anything. This enters the realm of acknowledging that you don't know what you think you know which is hard for many to adopt as a mindset. Most of us think we know more than what we do which inhibits the desire to learn.
Personal growth is something none of us can get enough of but so few actively pursue. It is in fact scary to admit that we are not perfect because then that leads to the question of who is responsible for this? Enter the mindset of responsibility.
Taking responsibility for every aspect of our being is a mindset that empowers our thinking. It changes context. Victims disappear and become survivors. There is power in using transformative words.
Managing context is not a magic wand that releases fairy dust but it is a powerful tool that can produce change. Like everything else in life if you want to get good at something it requires time, effort, and commitment to the process to produce mastery. The beauty of managing context is that it is applicable to any component of our lives. We just have to choose where we want to apply it.
