If Only.......

How many times have you thought to yourself, "If only X happens, then I could get Z"? If you're anything like me, you've had this thought maybe more times than you could remember. It's why so many of us play the lottery. Somehow we all think one magic thing exists or one magic thing can happen that would change our lives. Well, this thing does exist, but it is not anything you can find or buy in a store, or find n someone else. This thing exists in all of us and it is called our mindset.

Contrary to what the majority thinks, our mindsets are not genetically predetermined. How we think is developed through our experiences, our environments, and our situations. There isn't one specific thing that causes anything, but there are specific things that lead to other impressionable things, if that makes any sense.

We are emotional animals. Emotions run our existence. Most of the time for most of us this is just fine. But there are times where this practice works to hold us back and the good news is we are more than capable of overriding this emotional mechanism to break through and we can all do it.

Have you ever been exercising or working out and you thought you were done but were able to summon up enough to work through whatever plateau was right in front of you? That's an override. Whenever we are physically fatigued or tired our body is sending a message for us to stop because it is trying to prevent us from injuring ourselves. Often in order for us to get the gains we want we know we have to push through these barriers to get what we want. Every other application is the same when we are trying to conquer something within ourselves we know is holding us back. We just have to learn to and then practice this mindset of override to everything else. And it works.

I personally use this approach to just about everything that presents itself as more challenging than I wish it were. It doesn't matter whether it is physical, emotional, or psychological. I've adopted the growth mindset to everything in my life. This means I have supreme confidence that I can learn, improve, grow, change, or modify anything I want about myself if I just take the time to commit to the process.

This belief, this mindset, is difficult for many to accept or adopt. It requires a mindset of responsibility. This is taking responsibility for each and every single thing in your life and let's face it, it is just easier to throw blame here and there once in a while. This is unfortunate. It is only when we have the deep down belief about ourselves can we accomplish what we want in life. Being social animals we rely on those around us to achieve what we want. It is true. We all need the support and security of a team for our confidence to really take off and take risks needed to be successful at whatever we want to achieve. We can take responsibility for whom we surround ourselves with and the relationships we choose to invest in emotionally.

No one can help you until you decide to start helping yourself first.
