Focus On The Process, Not The Outcome

Focus In On The Process, Not The Outcome

I have written on the importance of setting goals when we have things we want to achieve. As previously written this gives us direction in our action. A follow up to the component of setting goals is to focus on the process of achieving it.

Our subconscious processes are incredibly powerful. When matched up to our conscious mind, the subconscious tends to win out just about all the time. I write 'just about' because although our conscious mind can not stand Mano e Mano with the subconscious, it does have two distinct advantages. One is that it is in fact capable of overriding, at least temporarily,  the subconscious in isolated instances with practice, and our conscious mind is what sets the goal, creates the plan, and can determine direction.

The subconscious has all kinds of power for movement but not direction. When we can get our conscious and subconscious minds working together as a tandem, that is when we approach our 'unstoppable'.

When we examine the formula for setting and achieving our goals, we can break down the ingredients to the recipe as such; set the goal, create the plan, focus on the process. It is the latter ingredient I wish to concentrate on. Focusing on the process is very specific. It requires us to clearly define what we need to be doing to achieve our end. With this clarity we will develop the confidence knowing that if we stay the course and focus on this process, the goal will be reached. This mindset achieves a few things. One is that it keeps us in the moment enabling us to put our full energy into the process. Without any distraction of future or past thinking, we are utilizing our energy and making the most out of it. Secondly, although we may not be aware of it in the moment, we are making forward progress.

I have adopted the mindset that the journey is the destination. This keeps me present and helps me to focus on the process whenever I am working to achieve a goal. I have no doubt that if I stay focused on the process that achievement will not only come, but it will actually sneak up on me while in the moment.
