Searching For Something In a Place it Doesn't Exist

One of the most fascinating statistics today is also one the saddest. Too many people today are miserable. Taken in context it really is a fascinating phenomenon. Particularly in the United States where we on average have more than most people on the planet, the misery is at its worst.

There has never been a time in human history when people as a whole have had more than many of us have today. The term used in many circles is abundance. It is also a mindset. Few possess it and few are aware of what it is. In a time when most have access to things their parents couldn't dream of having how can so many feel like they lack what they need? Here is where the dilemma gets quirky. Too many of us believe we need what we want. There is a big difference between needs and wants. I don't care what anyone thinks who is reading this, we don't need cell phones today. We don't need computers or tablets. We don't need cars and we don't need flat screen televisions.

Some of the problems lay with technology and how it's made things too easy for us. We don't have to work or earn so many things previous generations had to work for. This makes gratitude and appreciation an endangered species all while birthing entitlement, a wicked combination.

People put too much emphasis on material things, relationships, careers, money etc. to give them only what they can create within themselves, worth. What is lost is that creating self worth and core value requires work. It requires work, time, effort, patience and many of these things are simply lost from many of us.

If you have a roof over your head, food on your table, clothes on you back, access to clean water and electricity, you have more than about six billion of the seven billion people on the planet. Time to put things in perspective and appreciate what you have. Once you do you will see how good you actually have and then maybe you can get to work creating core value within yourself and stop searching for it in a place where it doesn't exist.
