The Majority Middle

The Majority Middle

We all have a sweet spot. The problem most of us have is determining where it is and committing to staying there. The first thing we need to determine is which direction we want to move in and where we want to go.

Balance and moderation of things in life helps us to maintain a certain homeostasis. What I find is that when we find ourselves in those places where we are not happy, or struggling with achieving those things we want we rare operating at the margins. The extreme ends are the margins.

If doing something rates on a scale of 1 to 10, the majority middle would be 7. It's above average but not quite at the margin of 9 or 10. Operating at the margins is exhausting and is not sustainable over the long term. Conversely, a majority margin could also be 3 but is not in the direction most would want to be traveling in.

It doesn't matter where in your life you wish to apply the margin principle, it is all applicable. In your personal growth, in your relationships, in your motivation, in achieving your goals, in your career, in life in general.

There will be time we will inevitably travel up and down the scale. Life is fluid that way. But it is possible to maintain a default setting if you commit to it. Commit to 7 to create the habits, mindsets, and life experiences you desire. Once in a while visit 8, 9 and 10 but understand the perils of trying to stay there too long. Too many of us operate at the margins and we don't even realize it and this is a big reason we don't make the kinds of progress we want in our lives.
