What Were You Thinking?

What Were You Thinking?

How often do you stop to think about how you think? Sometimes we can reflect after we do something that is so out of this world we can't help but try to understand why we just did that thing. But honestly, how mindful are you of the the things you do? How mindful even are you of how you think, your mindset?

There are numbers floating around out there that are truly magnificent when it comes to our cognitive and subconscious processes. It is estimated that the average person has seventy thousand thoughts a day, we make thirty-five thousand decisions a day and close to eighty percent of the choices we make are emotionally driven. Wow! So I ask you again, how mindful are you of the decisions you make and the mindset you employ?

There are too many reasons to list as to why we form some of the habits we form. What tends to be lacking on that list for many of us are the good habits we choose to consciously form. Think about it just for a moment. What is the last good habit you decided to consciously form?

It is no secret that the more good habits we can accumulate, the better choices and decisions we will make. This leads to us living more of the type of life we want. When over seventy percent of the working population is unhappy or unfulfilled in their employment and forty percent clinically obese, there are a substantial number of us who are seeking a way to make better decisions in our lives but are falling short of that desire.

Once we develop a pattern of any kind we tend to repeat that pattern. We tend to buy the same things' we tend to adhere to the same routines, we tend to do the same things the same ways day in and day out. So if we have a certain amount of thoughts daily, chances are we are repeating these thoughts. The same holds true with our behaviors. If we want to start to tweak and change these thoughts we can start by changing our behavior.

I am as guilty of anyone of coming off the rails from time to time. If anything it makes me recommit even stronger to the behavior to correct this. Over time resilience does build and change occurs. Our behavior powers the engine that is our thinking, our mindset. Embrace the concept of behaving your way to change and you will incrementally be able to create the change you desire in your life.
