Do Difficult Things
The title pretty much goes against what is the status quo these days. The era of technology we are in today has the sole stated purpose of making things we do easier. But if you are interested in your personal development and want to truly standing out today, you must do difficult things.
Right off the bat I want to address what I mean as difficult. Anything that does not come easily is what I am referring to. This can be applied to anything you want but I want you focus on yourself with this application. Work on your personal development. Do difficult things that will improve who you are as a person. Read personal development books, write about your thoughts and feelings, eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, get the proper amount of sleep and so forth. These seem like no brainier things but how many of us are actually doing them? Very few of us.
The benefits of doing difficult things regularly are that we are building ourselves up in a way to increase our personal growth. We are consistently building up our resilience to overcome and adapt. If we work consistently to improve who we are and work to be the best version of the person we can be on a daily basis, when adversity hits, we will be that much better equipped to be the best version of ourselves in difficult times. This means we will increase the probability of making good decisions when we are rattled. We will be more dependable to those who rely on us in times of need. We will be more effective leaders, managers, parents, friends, spouses etc. In addition, when we do difficult things we become armed with the confidence to overcome and productively deal with difficult things in the future.
The world of ease is a dangerous place to operate. We can't help but take things for granted but we must develop a routine of checking in with ourselves. If you want to accomplish great things, have good relationships or whatever, the only way to get there is to do the difficult things applicable in those areas you want to grow. It doesn't happen on its own.
Connecting with people and developing healthy attachments is not easy. This is not something that comes naturally for anyone. Improving communication skills is not easy. Having difficult and uncomfortable conversations is not easy. Reading books is not easy. Going after things in life you don't initially believe you can do is not easy. Create a mindset that doing difficult things is necessary for you to get to where you want to be in your life. Students who takes notes by hand take fewer notes than those who use laptops or tablets but retain far more information. Difficult things yield greater benefits.
The temptation is difficult and is only going to become increasingly worse as technology advances. Take the time out to do the difficult things in the areas where you want to stand out and stand out you will. Because most people do not do difficult things.
