Self Limiting Beliefs Are Lies We Unknowingly Perpetuate
Deterministic thinking has been around seemingly forever and shows no sign of letting up anytime soon. This idea is romanticized and kept alive in books, films, television shows, casual conversation and the majority of thought energy that permeates the planet. In many ways it is a paradox because in one regard it is somewhat true but in another it is completely inaccurate.
What we believe we are capable of is what we do. These eleven words pretty sum up everything about our behavior patterns in our lives. Even the most intelligent among us can know they are capable of more but unless they believe they are capable of more they will not achieve more. What we know and what we believe are not the same thing. With the proper mindset and work, what we know can eventually become what we believe. What we believe about who we are, what we are capable of, and what we deserve are the drivers of our destinies. And these narratives are completely changeable but too many of us either don't realize they are or don't believe we can't rewrite them.
I refer these narratives of our self limiting beliefs lies because we are living in accordance to something we initially did not create and don't believe. We all have them to some degree and these are continuously perpetuated by us in our thinking, feelings, decisions and our behaviors. We all operate from our own unique sets of prediction loops that include these self limiting behaviors. We create them, but we didn't originally design them. We were taught them.
From the time we are conceived until approximately the age of seven we are cognitive sponges learning what we are, what we will become, what we deserve, and what we are capable of. This information is simply taken in through our bodies, environment, experiences and the social interactions we are exposed to. It is a wholly random thing. We have nothing to do with what we learn, what we are exposed to or the opportunities we are presented within this window of our existence. We start to relive what we learned in this window by simply repeating it and looking for it and the things to validate it. Our self fulfilling reality loops are started and many of us simply continue them until we are covered with dirt. But this doesn't have to be. We are capable of learning until that dirt falls upon us it's just that our mechanisms of learning go from automatic to manual after a certain age and many of us never step on the clutch to operate that learning engine again.
There is absolutely no reason for any of us to continue to live in a box we didn't initially create. The problem is our identities and the lives we created are anchored to these boxes so to rip them down means we run the risk of losing our identity and everything associated with it. This is an understandably terrifying concept but it is also why so many people are living miserable and inauthentic lives. We all know we are capable of more we are just struggling to believe. And we want to believe it so badly yet we continue to hold ourselves back. We are living in a day and age where things in life are changing more rapidly than ever before. The days of hunkering down and getting a job and staying with that job for want of security for the duration of one's career is coming to and end. Only by embracing the infinite potential we all have and getting into that space where we can be limitless and creative will future generations be able to prosper. Peter Diamandis of Singular University and Xprise estimates that more wealth will be created in the next ten years than the previous century precisely because there will be an increase in the number of individuals that operate from the infinite potential mindset.
If you look around and observe the changes that are happening you will find that you are already operating in the realm of infinite potential. Start to look at yourself as the person who will have a hand n creating elements of the realm and not simply as someone who operates within it. Work to remove the self limiting thoughts and beliefs that you didn't initially create and know you don't want. Do new things, experience new things, develop competence in areas you don't believe you can and you will start to access the infinite potential you've always had inside of you.
